AeroWX was a Flask WepApp for amalgamating multiple weather sources for Pilots operating in Europe and USA.
Features included:
- Live METAR & TAF,
- Live D-ATIS reports from US Airports, directly from FAA SWIM,
- Weather charts from multiple sources,
- Access to Volcanic Ash advisories,
- Links to useful sites, including Nav Canada Live Aerodrome Information.
D-ATIS for RDU Airport
As AeroWX was simply a web application, the web browser pulled the data straight from the source; for example the Jeppesen charts come straight from the JetPlan website - AeroWX just told your device where to find them.
The app was also optimised to serve any necessary files (for styling) locally, meaning one less connection required using in-flight WiFi.

The decision to retire AeroWX came following significant improvements to employer provided EFB tools and changes to Oracle’s policy for their “always free tier” VMs.
I also hadn’t maintained the FAA D-ATIS receiver tool I had built since it was first assembled. As the tool was hosted on an affected Oracle VM, the overhead and potential charges made the decision to modernise this harder. Ultimately I chose to dedicate my time elsewhere.
